100 thousands of Polish tourists visited Malta in 2018

In 2018, 2.6 million tourists visited Malta! This is 14% more than in 2017. Expenditure on tourism amounted to EUR 2.1 billion in 2018. This is 8% more than in 2017.

There was also an increase in the number of overnight stays given to tourists – in total, almost 18.6 million were granted last year (an increase of 12.5%). Last year, tourists from the United States for the first time found themselves in the top ten visitors.

The number of Polish tourists who visited the island also increased. In 2018, over 96 thousand Poles went to Malta (8% more than in 2017). They were granted a total of 630,000 nights. It is the most from all Eastern European countries.

Newly opened air connections attract tourists from various corners of the world. The new routes are created both for European cities (Cardiff and Exeter in Great Britain, Verona, Genoa, Perugia and Lamezia in Italy and Bordeaux in France) as well as cities on other continents (Amman, Cairo and Doha).

The Minister of Tourism Konrad Mizzi emphasizes that such a huge interest in Malta results from the strategy implemented by the government: Malta focuses on the diversity of the tourist offer, available throughout the year. Statistics show that the growth rate of tourism from January to June is higher than in the summer period July-September. Mizzi added that in 2019 the government will support traditional markets such as Great Britain and Italy and will try to attract new tourists, especially from Japan, China and Latin America.
