Home sharing platform Airbnb says it has now welcomed a colossal half a billion guests since its founding in 2007.

Although it doesn’t post performance data as a private company, it did release some interesting stats and milestones.

The Airbnb platform now lists about six million places to stay and since its first day of business, hosts have earned a total of $65 billion.

There is an Airbnb listing seemingly everywhere on the planet, with a presence in 81,000 towns and cities in 191 countries.

A total of 75 major cities have now hosted at least one million guest arrivals, including Auckland, New Zealand, Mexico City and Havana.

It says there are now 900 cities which boast at least 1,000 Airbnb listings.

According to analytics firm Second Measure, Airbnb sales have already surpassed hotel giants such as IHG and Hilton, and is now valued at about $31 billion.

The company could still go ahead with a public listing this year as originally planned or may wait until 2020.
