Scandinavian carrier SAS is to launch two new seasonal routes to New York from Aalborg in Denmark and Gothenburg, Sweden, from April 2023.

Both summer routes to Newark Liberty International airport will operate three times per week from 27 April, using new Airbus A321 Long Range aircraft.

They will complement SAS’s existing routes to New York with the carrier offering a total of five daily departures from Scandinavia to New York next summer.

Erik Westman, EVP and chief commercial officer, network and revenue management, at SAS, said: “As part of SAS’s strategy to strengthen the regional offering in Scandinavia, we are pleased to add intercontinental routes from Gothenburg and Aalborg.

“We see a demand from secondary cities and are delighted to connect even more parts of the world. The Airbus A321 Long Range is a slightly smaller long-distance aircraft and perfect in size for servicing the regional markets.”

Gothenburg-New York flights will operate on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, while Aalborg-New York will fly on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

Airbus A321LR single-aisle aircraft will feature a total of 157 seats, including 22 business seats and 12 Plus premium economy seats.
