Activists block German airport runways, dozens of cancellations
Dozens of Germany flight departures have been grounded after climate activists blocked runways.
Members of the Last Generation group cut through perimetre fencing to glue themselves to the tarmac at Düsseldorf and Hamburg airports.
It as caused major disruption to flights.
Hamburg Airport said at least 46 flights were delayed, cancelled or diverted as of early Thursday.
It says airport operations have resumed but more disruption is possible.
At least 19 departures were scrapped.
“Unauthorised people had gained access to the airport premises,” it tweeted.
“For security reasons, air traffic had to be temporarily suspended.”
At Dusseldorf disruption is ongoing and passengers have been advised to check their flight status.
