American Airlines halts Venezuela flight indefinitely
American Airlines has decided to indefinitely suspendi flights to Venezuela, as political turmoil in the country shows little sign of abating.
As capital Caracus and the regions experience more blackouts, American says it will halt services for an indefinite period.
AA temporarily suspended flights earlier this month after a pilots union urged members not to accept flying assignments to the country due to safety risks.
This came on the back of a travel advisory issued by the U.S. State Department.
The airline says it will work with union leaders, employees and other stakeholders to restart service when conditions are right to do so.
It has been flying to Venezuela for more than 30 years.
American had served the capital and the city of Maracaibo from Miami.
All other US carriers ended Venezuela service some time ago, even before civil unrest wracked the country once more.
US and international airlines had been having problems repatriating revenues on sales made in the country over the past couple of years, amounting to tens of millions of dollars in some cases.
