In the name of development, the world-famed Changi Airport (CAG) in Singapore has announced an increase in fee for outbound passengers starting November 1.

The announcement was made by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Changi Airport Group (CAG). Apparently, Singapore wanted to increase this fee back in 2018. However, because of the Coronavirus pandemic, the plan was cancelled.

The price hike is expected from November 1 this year and will be effective till March 2023. So those taking flights from Changi will have to pay a departure fee of SGD 52.30 (INR 3000). The fee includes SGD 35.40 (INR 2000) as passenger service and security fee, SGD 6.10 (INR 345) as aviation tax and SGD 10.80 (INR 610) as airport development fee.

From April 2023, this fee is expected to rise to SGD 62.20 (INR 3520) and from April 2024, the same fee is expected to increase to SGD 65.20 (INR 3690).

As per reports, the authorities will use the amount for maintenance of the airport. However, those who have booked tickets from Singapore before November 1 will not have to pay any additional charge.

CAG said that the hiked fee will apply to origin-destination passengers flying from Changi Airport. However, travellers arriving at Changi Airport or transit passengers will not have to pay this price.
