Chaos at Stansted after fault with security scanners
Stansted Airport has apologised for a technical problem that caused long queues at security yesterday morning.
The fault with security scanners meant some passengers missed their flights altogether.
The problems began at around 4.30am and, according to the airport, were resolved by 8.15am.
Passengers posted complaints on social media and showed pictures of large crowds waiting to pass through the airport.
Passengers described the departures halls as ‘hell’ and a ‘zoo’ and criticised the airport for lack of announcements and organisation.
One likened it to a ‘zombie apocalypse’.
According to some reports, one passenger fainted and wheelchair users were unable to make their way through.
A tweet from Stansted thanked passengers for their patience and cooperation.
