China Reigns as the World’s Top Outbound Market
China has the largest number of outbound tourists in the world at 135 million and the statistics is considered to go up to 157 million in 2020, authorities said here.
A total of 135 million tourists from China made outbound trips in 2016 in comparison to 5 million in 1995, as per the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). This represented an average growth of 17.6 percent every year over 21 years.
The outbound tourism market of China was estimated to get boost up by 5 percent annually on average in the forthcoming years, bringing the number of outbound tourists to 157 million in 2020, Xinhua news agency informed citing China Tourism Academy — a think tank under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Often called “walking wallets”, due to their raised spending capacity, for holiday, Chinese tourists fly to other countries. Also, for shopping and cosmetic surgery, Chinese tourist number can be seen plummeting.
At various duty-free shops in Seoul and Tokyo, many Chinese can be seen buying cosmetic creams, face masks, clothes among others.
As per Chinese International Travel Monitor 2016, the per capita spending of Chinese outbound travelers hit ($3,370) in 2015. Indian wants to make the most of the Chinese outbound tourists, but has not been able to do so.
