Disney acquires unfinished ship Global Dream

Disney Cruise Line confirmed it has acquired the partially completed mega cruise ship Global Dream.

Disney says it will work with German shipyard Meyer Werft to complete the ship.

It will be renamed and interiors will be remodelled with signature Disney themes.

It is expected to begin sailing in 2025.

“This ship will make a Disney cruise vacation accessible to more families than ever,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman, Disney Parks.

The new ship will be based outside the US.

The 200,000-gross-ton ship has capacity for over 6,000 guests.

The Global Dream was initially under construction for the Genting Hong Kong-owned Dream Cruises for the Asia market.

Genting Hong Kong went bankrupt earlier this year.

Global Dream is about 75% complete.
