Hawaiian Airlines rolling out no-frills economy basic fare
Hawaiian Airlines announced it is joining rivals in launching a basic economy fare.
The carrier will roll out the no-frills tickets in 2019, following the likes of Delta, American and United.
The fare does not include checked baggage, or advance seat assignment, and no changes are permitted.
Basic economy ticket holders will board last.
It becomes Hawaiian’s fourth fare class joining Premium Cabin, Extra Comfort and economy Main Cabin seats.
While it is following the lead of other airlines, Southwest Airlines’ imminent entry into Hawaii is likely the catalyst.
Southwest CEO Gary Kelly last week said the airline was ‘very close’ to announcing its long awaited entry in Hawaii.
Kelly said it is a matter of ‘weeks not months’ before it is ‘ready to roll.
