Heathrow Airport strikes go ahead from today after last minute pay talks failed to reach a compromise.

Over 1,000 airport security guards are on strike which could impact flights over the busy Easter holiday period.

The strike is planned to last 10 days until Easter Sunday.

It involves security officers at Terminal 5 which predominantly affects British Airways flights.

BA had already pre-emptively cancelled dozens of flights.

Heathrow management said it has plans to minimise any disruption.

It will bring in 1,000 extra staff to cover.

The Unite union said ‘Heathrow Airport has thrown away the opportunity to avoid strikes’ by refusing to offer a fair pay rise.
