Heathrow passenger restrictions could return for Christmas
Heathrow is set to lift the current passenger cap this Sunday but further restrictions are likely for the Christmas holidays.
Passengers may have to fly at non-peak times on some busy days, the airport says.
“We are working with airlines to agree a highly targeted mechanism that, if needed, would align supply and demand on a small number of peak days in the lead-up to Christmas,” Heathrow said.
“This would encourage demand into less busy periods, protecting the heavier peaks, and avoiding flight cancellations.”
Heathrow says demand matching pre-pandemic levels is still some way off and admits it’s still short of 25,000 staff to meet demand at peak times.
Heathrow said passenger totals will be about 60 million for the year, still about 25% down on 2019.
