Jet2 inks investment deal for UK sustainable aviation fuel production

Jet2 has announced a major investment into a new sustainable aviation fuel production plant in the northwest.

In one of the first such deals in UK aviation, Jet2 plc will invest an equity stake in the Fulcrum NorthPoint facility in Cheshire.

The waste-to-fuels plant is being developed by Fulcrum BioEnergy Ltd in Ellesmere Port.

Jet2 expect to receive more than 200 million litres of sustainable aviation fuel over a 15-year period.

It would be one of the longest SAF supply agreements currently.

Production of SAF is expected to commence at the plant in 2027.

When at full capacity, 600,000 tonnes of non-recyclable household waste will be converted into around 100 million litres of SAF annually.

The NorthPoint plant will use Fulcrum’s waste-to-fuel process.

The SAF supply is expected to achieve net emissions reductions of around 400,000 tonnes of CO2 for Jet2.com over the 15-year period.

The proximity of the plant means it can be delivered directly to Manchester Airport using the existing jet fuel pipework infrastructure.
