LOT Polish Airlines set to double its Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet
Polish flag carrier LOT Polish Airlines will expand its Boeing 737 Max fleet with an additional six aircraft. The planes will operate LOT’s short-haul and medium-haul routes and are expected to join the airline in October 2022.
“LOT is in the process of selecting a new fleet in the regional and narrow-body segment. Until a supplier is selected, we are planning to source aircraft as a bridging solution – the first Embraer 175 and 190 have already joined LOT Polish Airlines’ fleet and will soon be followed by the Boeing 737 MAX 8. I am very pleased to see these reliable and economical aircraft completing our single-aisle fleet,” LOT chief operating officer Maciej Wilk said in a statement.
All six planes, which used to operate Romanian low-cost carrier’s Blue Air routes, have been leased from US-based aircraft leasing company Air Lease Corporation under a long-term lease agreement, the airline added.
The Warsaw-based airline has previously partnered with the lessor, signing leasing agreements for five Boeing 737 MAX 8s and a single 787 Dreamliner between 2017 and 2018.
The new aircraft will be equipped with a passenger cabin capable of flying 189 travelers on board and will feature the Boeing Sky Interior.
“The cabin itself offers new, ergonomic luggage compartments and LED lighting of adaptable intensity and color. The manufacturer has also arranged lights, speakers, and buttons for increased comfort to passengers,” LOT added.
According to Planespotters.com data, LOT currently operates a fleet consisting of 74 planes. With the delivery of the six MAX 8s, the airline’s 737 MAX fleet will stand at 11 jets.
