Lufthansa IT outage causes massive flight delays

An IT outage at Lufthansa is causing havoc, with widespread flight delays.

“There is a group-wide IT system failure,” Lufthansa said.

It has affected operations at several airports across Germany.

Footage showed huge lines of travellers waiting to check in.

Lufthansa confirmed disruption at the group’s airlines globally.

Some planes were boarded using handwritten paper dockets.

“This is causing flight delays and cancellations. We regret the inconvenience this is causing our passengers,” the company tweeted.

Network provider Telekom said several glass-fiber cables were damaged in Frankfurt during construction work.

It could take several hours to fix.

All Lufthansa’s Frankfurt departures were halted.

It said nternational flights are also affected.
