Marriott 2020 strategy outlines plans for 1,000 Asia hotels
Marriott International has laid out a strategy to reach 1,000 hotels open in Asia Pacific by 2020.
With its 2020 vision, the company expects to create up to 50,000 more job opportunities across the region and is on track to open 100 new hotels this year.
Marriott currently has 710 properties in 23 Asia Pacific countries across 23 of its 30 brands.
The China market continues to be the main driver of regional growth with more than 300 hotels in the development pipeline and will open the first JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in China this year in Shanghai.
There will also be several brand debuts in Australia, Hong Kong, The Philippines, Nepal and India this year.
“The breadth and depth of Marriott International’s footprint mean that we are able to offer travellers opportunities to experience more destinations, brands and experiences,” said Marriott’s regional chief Craig Smith.
Having marked the 100th hotel opening recently, India is the second-fastest market in Asia with more than 50 properties in the pipeline.
It will soon debut the Tribute Portfolio brand in India.
Furthermore, there are more than 140 hotels slated to open across Southeast Asia and 50 in the Pacific region.
