New airport complex opens in India

A new airport complex was opened on December 16 at Bamrauli Airport in Prayagraj, India. Prayagraj was previously known as Allahabad.

The Prime Minister of India opened the complex in Uttar Pradesh which will cater to 300 passengers in peak hour and has 8 check-in counters.

Under the UDAN scheme, the city is to be connected to over a dozen places to lesser-used airports.

Prayagraj is to host the famed Kumbh Mela from January 14 to mid-March, when millions of pilgrims will come to bathe in Sangam, the confluence of holy rivers.

Cost of the airport complex was Rs 164 crores.
