New sightseeing bus unveiled in Mombasa
A new luxury double-decker sightseeing bus has been unveiled in the Port of Mombasa. The unveiling comes as the city is preparing to host the global Skål Congress later this month.
The bus, decked out in the colours of the Kenyan flag, is a joint initiative between the Mombasa County government and Mombasa Sightseeing Limited, whose CEO, Evelyne Lele, said: “We are highly indebted to the support and advice we have received from all stakeholders and pledge to do our best to ensure the new bus service lives up to its billing as luxury bus provider of choice.”
Lele added that the company had plans to introduce a similar service in Nairobi, with January 2019 as the possible launch date.
The Mombasa bus route is a four-hour sightseeing trip, exploring both Mombasa mainland and Mombasa Island, crossing Nyali Bridge to get on to the island. The bus operates on a hop-on, hop-off basis, allowing tourists to see as many or as few stops as they wish. Stops include the Commonwealth War Cemetery, Fort Jesus, Old Town and the State House.
Tickets will cost US$35 for international tourists and include an on-board tour guide as well as entrance to a number of the stops. The bus will operate six days a week, Monday to Saturday.
