Norwegian Air adding seasonal flights to Barcelona, Athens
Norwegian Air is adding new nonstop seasonal transatlantic routes from Athens and Barcelona to the US.
It is launching flights from New York to Athens and from Chicago to Barcelona for the 2019 summer season.
The Athens service kicks off on June 7, while Chicago-Barcelona begins on July2.
Both operate four times a week on Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft through October 26.
Norwegian already links Barcelona with Newark and Los Angeles which are being expanded to daily and six times a week respectively.
“Norwegian is fully committed to the United States and have answered our passengers’ growing demand for more destinations from both New York City and Chicago,” said Matthew Wood, Norwegian’s SVP of Commercial Long Haul.
“Athens is an exciting addition to our transatlantic route network. Barcelona, which we added two and half years ago from the US, is performing so well that we are adding a new route, from Chicago.”
The carrier had a tough year with significant capacity cuts and some transatlantic routes halted.
It continues to work on an ‘optimized route portfolio’ and downsizing its fleet to reduce costs.
