People’s Choice Awards Thailand Voted by Chinese tourists 2017 to announce in June
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will open voting on the People’s Choice Awards Thailand Voted by Chinese Tourists 2017 from 26 May to 8 June via www.peopleschoiceawardsthailand.com The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Bangkok on 12 June, 2017, which will be presided over by H.E. General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand.
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor said, “Now in its third year, the People’s Choice Awards Thailand Voted by Chinese Tourists project reflects the huge and growing popularity of Thailand among tourists from the People’s Republic of China. The enthusiastic response of so many Chinese tourists to the poll shows the huge and growing interest in Thailand from our largest tourist market. These awards also encourage the many Thai-based tourism product and service providers to maintain the highest standards and ensure that valuable visitors return year after year.”
The Awards are based on the votes of Chinese travellers who have visited Thailand, and over 3.2 million tourists are expected to cast their votes in the 2017 voting season. There are 14 categories in the awards: Luxury Hotels; Boutique Hotels; City Hotels; Beach Hotels; Airlines: Shows and Entertainment: Medical and Wellness Services; Restaurants; Spas; Golf Courses; Shopping Centres; Tourism Activities and Theme Parks; Attractions and Destinations.
Thai tourism product and service winners in each of the 14 categories will be awarded with a commemorative plaque by H.E. General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand. All candidates in the top 10 in each category will receive a certificate from H.E. Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports.
For Chinese voters in the awards, there are a range of lucky draw prizes. The first prize is a five-day holiday for two in Thailand, including return air tickets on Thai Airways International and accommodation. The next five prizes are also return air tickets for two to Thailand on Thai Smile Airways, NokScoot Airlines, Thai AirAsia, Bangkok Airways and Thai Lion Air. Over 100 other prizes are also being offered including vouchers for accommodation, spa treatments, dining, shows and entertainment, and many more.
To encourage Chinese tourists to vote, TAT is promoting the project in collaboration with Tencent, China’s largest Internet company, which owns a number of Chinese online channels; such as, WeChat (570 million users per day), QZone (330 million users per day), QQmessenger (27 million users per day), and Tencent News (27 million users per day). The online publicity activities are expected to reach more than 35 million people in the People’s Republic of China, and enhance the market awareness on Thailand as a popular destination among Chinese tourists over 35 million times.
TAT launched the “People’s Choice Awards Thailand Voted by Chinese Tourists” project in 2015 as The Best of Thailand Awards Voted by Chinese Tourists, and renamed to the current name in 2016. In its second year, the voting attracted over 3.2 million votes.
In 2016, Thailand attracted 8.8 million tourists from the People’s Republic of China, where TAT currently operates offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Kunming, and Guangzhou. For 2017, TAT expects Thailand to attract at least 9 million Chinese tourists and generate some 570 billion Baht for the Thai tourism industry.
