Petra flood forced tourists to evacuate

A Petra flood has forced the evacuation of hundreds of tourists.
Heavy rainfall caused flash floods at the ancient city.
Around 1,700 people were evacuated.
On Monday the Petra authority urged residents to stay off the streets, although the Petra flood waters have now receded.
Tourist routes into the UNESCO World Heritage site started reopening on Tuesday.
“Authorities are currently working to rehabilitate the streets,” the Petra Tourism Region Authority said.
In 2018, heavy flood waters forced 4,000 people to evacuate.
