Salinda Resort is giving nature a holiday too
Salinda Resort, the only luxury boutique resort on Phu Quoc Island, has launched “Purple by Salinda” – its own sustainability initiative that encourages an eco friendly way of living for their guests and community. From the resort’s architecture and design to its daily operations, Salinda Resort promotes environmental stewardship by creating a holiday where guests can relax in the knowledge that the team is doing its best to protect the Phu Quoc Island.
Architecture & Design – Salinda’s mission was always to create a hotel which breathes and operates in an eco-friendly way. The resort incorporated various biodegradable and renewable materials, such as the world’s most sustainable wood Accoya which remains CO2 negative over its full life cycle; LED lighting that covers 85% of the property; and entirely recyclable window panels from Schueco. The resort complimented the island’s natural beauty by dedicating 70% of the land to trees and flowers, reaching around 100 species. A special salt-filtration technology of the infinity pool purifies water by substituting industrial chlorine with ionized one extracted from natural salts.
Daily Operations – Salinda Resort ensures that the employees’ minds and bodies are in harmony with nature by promoting sustainable living. Beside a complete substitution of plastic straws with bamboo, acrylic and stainless steel in August 2018, Salinda will implement a plastic-pen free movement by supporting the visually impaired community who helped create recyclable pens with flower seeds which can be planted upon the end of the pens’ life cycle. On top of that, the resort has implemented other ecological practices: sewage purification treatment – where contaminated water can be filtered and used for watering gardens; sending plastic water bottles to recycling companies; solar panels that source energy for water heating of the property; and monthly beach clean ups.
Purple Purpose – Purple is the color of sustainable economy – the bridge to promoting cultural potential of goods and services. Salinda believes that the community we live in is measured by the compassionate actions of its members, which is why the team focuses on cherishing the Vietnamese culture. The resort creates diversified employment opportunities for aspiring young hoteliers in Phu Quoc and from all over Vietnam. Salinda also cooperates with Vietnam’s Fine Arts Association, organizing annual art exhibitions for local artists to showcase their work. By collaborating with Mekong Quilts, a non-profit organisation which creates sustainable employment for under-privileged women, Salinda is able to exhibit Vietnamese handcrafted accessories in its own Boutique Shop.
