Sports tourism on the rise
The global sports tourism market is set to grow by $6.12 billion over the next three to four years, according to Technavio, a market research company based in the UK.
With an increase of international tourism events planned globally, this is a growing market that has very real benefits, both directly and indirectly, for local economies.
The World Financial Review also published an article earlier this year saying that sports tourism was “one of the fastest growing segments of the travel industry today”. For example, for years the Olympic Games generated more and more profit in the tourism sector.
2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo are expected to generate record revenue. Among the trends in the sports sector team travel is growing more popular. It involves the travelling of the whole team as well as managers, coaches, relatives and close ones of the players.
As tourism professionals note a team of 10 or 15 people can generate the travel of as many as 50 or 60 individuals.
