Thailand has introduced new tourism fee
The Tourism and Sports Ministry in Thailand introduced the 300-baht tourism fee. Now everyone who visits Thailand will be obligated to pay the fee upon the entry.
With the additional income Thai authorities hope to establish a tourism fund to assist the battered industry. Moreover, the money will also be used to cover insurance for international tourists who visit the country.
Currently, due to the pandemic, international tourists figures are much lower than expected.
In 2020 Thailand welcomed only 6,7 million travelers. For comparison, in 2019 the country visited nearly 40 million.
As the vaccination process starts Thailand hopes to welcome many more tourists in 2021. Introduction of new fee will also contribute to mitigating negative consequences of the pandemic and revive the economy.
