Thailand struggles
Dusit Thani Public Company Limited is closing all seven of its owned hotels across Thailand.
They will stay shuttered until further notice. The Dusit Thani Pattaya and Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket have already closed due to lockdowns in Phuket and Pattaya and the remaining hotels will close once all current guests check out.
No new bookings are accepted. The hotels will progressively close once all rooms become empty.
The economic damage from the coronavirus so far is estimated at US$40 billion, or 7.7 per cent of the GDP. 1.1 trillion of Thailand’s GDP is attributed to the tourism sector. The economic contraction is set to steepen if the pandemic isn’t contained by mid-year. The situation looks particularly grim to smaller hotels and businesses.
