Travel disruption continues across France in wake of strike action
Travellers in France face further disruption as nationwide strikes against proposed pension reforms continue.
Following major disruption to train and air traffic earlier this week, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) has asked carriers to reduce flight schedules on Thursday (9 March) and Friday (10 March) by 20 per cent at the main hub of Paris Charles de Gaulle, and by up to 30 per cent at France’s smaller airports, including Paris-Orly and those in Lyon, Bordeaux and Toulouse.
The DGAC has warned further short-notice delays and flight cancellations are possible across France through to and including Saturday (11 March).
High-speed international rail companies Eurostar and Thalys earlier this week cut around one-third of their normal schedule due to the strike. Eurostar has since revised its timetable with further cancellations on Thursday.
As previously reported by BTN Europe, there is no specified end point for the latest industrial action, leading to fears of travel disruption for several days.
According to a Bloomberg report, Tuesday’s strike saw 1.28 million workers across France gather in protest of the government’s plan to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64.
