Avram Iancu Cluj-Napoca International Airport (CLJ) in the heart of Transylvania has experienced significant passenger growth over the past two decades. In 2002, it handled just 100,000 travelers annually, while in 2019, this number approached 3 million. Post-pandemic, the airport quickly returned to a growth trajectory, surpassing 3 million passengers in 2023. Projections for 2025 estimate 3.4 million travelers.

To accommodate increasing demand, the airport plans infrastructure investments, including extending the runway to handle larger aircraft and facilitate intercontinental flights. David Ciceo, the airport’s CEO, emphasizes the goal of reaching 7 million passengers annually.

In March 2025, the airport hosted the Aviation-Event 2025 CLJ conference, where industry leaders discussed the future of aviation amid geopolitical, economic, and environmental challenges.
