Just three hours into the new year, a terrorist attack struck Bourbon Street, New Orleans’ iconic nightlife hub, leaving 10 people dead and 35 injured.

The celebrations quickly turned to chaos as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar from Houston drove a rented truck into the crowd. The vehicle, rented via the Turu app, displayed an ISIS flag, and Jabbar wore military-style clothing.

Law enforcement shot Jabbar at the scene, halting the attack. An explosive device was later found in the truck, though its functionality remains unclear. Authorities are investigating the possibility of accomplices, including links to a fire at a nearby Airbnb property tied to the incident.

The attack echoes similar events in Nice, Berlin, and New York, highlighting the persistent threat of vehicle-based terrorism. Witnesses described the scene as horrifying, with festive sparklers contrasting sharply with the tragedy. Bourbon Street’s New Year’s celebrations ended in sorrow, marking a somber start to 2025.
