A Polish tourist visiting Croatia faced an unpleasant surprise after paying in a restaurant in Novalja. He used his Mastercard to settle the bill, but the terminal froze. The waiter claimed the transaction failed and asked him to try again. Upon returning to Poland, the tourist discovered that over PLN 1000 had disappeared from his account – much more than the actual bill.

This incident highlights the risk of fraud in popular tourist destinations. Experts recommend always asking for a transaction confirmation and regularly checking your bank statement via a mobile app. If anything looks suspicious, report it immediately and block your card.

When paying abroad, avoid situations where someone else handles the terminal out of sight – especially in tourist hotspots.
