WestJet adding London, Dublin, Paris routes from Calgary

WestJet is expanding its transatlantic network with a trio of new routes to Europe out of Calgary.

New non-stop services will connect the city with London Gatwick, Paris and Dublin.

London service kicks off on April 28, 2019, followed by Paris in mid-May and Dublin from June 1.

Westjet will operate the routes with Boeing 787-9, and becomes the first Canadian carrier to base Dreamliner aircraft out of Calgary, CEO Ed Sims says.

“We’re investing in Alberta because we believe there is so much opportunity for further economic growth, boosting tourism to the province. Not waiting for the economy to recover by itself, but to be an incremental part of that recovery and to drive that recovery,” he said.

The city is ‘underserved’ for Europe flights, Sims added.

“We think there’s a great opportunity to both introduce a new generation of travelers onto these services and obviously to move travelers from other existing services as well.”

WestJet’s 320-seat jets offer 16 lie-flat seats, and 24 seats in premium economy.

It takes delivery of the new Dreamliners in early 2019.

WestJet is also launching a new logo and branding with a new ad tagline ‘Love where you’re going.’
